MultiLink - OnlineJ.E.T.S. Ltd, operators of the MultiLink debit network, have introduced an Internet Web Site to offer general information about MultiLink services.07/18/04 -- Most people in Jamaica have never heard of J.E.T.S. Limited. Not a problem says General Manager Edmundo Jenez, "It is the MultiLink brand that we promote. That is the key name recognized by our over 515,000 users." True enough. MultiLink users average over 3.3 transactions per month to get cash from any of the networks 161 ABM island wide or to pay for goods and services in over 3850 merchant terminals. The new website will make it easier for MultiLink users to learn about the services and read about its performance. Mr. Jenez explained that "Many cardholders have expressed an interest in learning more about MultiLink and the Internet provides the most effective vehicles for communicating with network users." The MultiLink website will also provide information about ABM locations and shopping areas where MultiLink POS terminals can be found. The website will also provide news about J.E.T.S., MultiLink and general debit card information. The MultiLink ABM sharing service was introduced to Jamaicans on June 1, 1997 and has seen dramatic growth from a mere 33,316, in the first month, to over 329,152 customer transactions per month in June 2000. Mr. Jenez notes that " The POS service was first announced in December 1998 and officially launched in April of 1999 and is growing at a fantastic rate. While the ABM service is still setting records of its own with growth rate of about 40% per year, the POS service is blazing along at over 240% per year." It also interesting to note that customers who use the ABM service alone usually average about 3 transactions per month, those using the POS service alone do about 2. However, the rapidly growing segment of users using both the ABM and POS services now do about 6 transactions per month. This by no means excludes some of the very active cardholders who perform sometimes 48 transactions per month! MultiLink has been very well accepted by the Jamaican public who enjoy the convenience of being able to user the Debit Cards to access their savings or checking accounts from anywhere in the island that they see the MultiLink sign. "Our people needed this service, especially now-a-days with very busy lives, people just don't have the time spend long hours waiting in a line to get cash", Mr. Jenez commented. "Also merchants are seeing the benefits of moving to electronic payments to reduce their exposure for carry large amounts of cash in their stores and eliminating the risk associated with cheques. Another significant achievement of the MultiLink network has been its great system reliability record. The network uptime is better than 99.99%. "It is just starting to get to where we would like it", teased Mr. Jenez, "We monitor the system very closely, in fact every 10 minutes we complete a scan of the entire network between all the Member Institutions. Any problems detected even in their earliest stages are immediately notified to our personnel via electronic pagers 24 hours per day." |
